Indian Head Massage, also known as Champissage is a form of massage that focuses on the upper arms, upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face. Pressure points, massage techniques, circular massage and tapping on the scalp are used.
It is an ancient Ayurvedic tradition that has been practiced for over a thousand years. The ladies of the family would massage each other’s head to improve their scalp and keep their long hair looking beautiful.
Indian Head Massage works with the three upper energy centers. these are the crown, third eye and throat. Working with these three chakras has a powerful effect, as the body, mind and spirit are worked on. This can help to bring the whole body back into balance.
As each area is worked upon muscle tension starts to ease, improving mobility in the upper back, shoulders and neck. This can improve circulation to the neck and head, and encourage lymphatic drainage. Other benefits are, relieve eye strain, reduce sinus congestion, reduce headaches and promote healthy hair growth.
The massage is done with the client fully clothed, usually sitting in a chair, making this ideal to be done anywhere and anytime. Sessions can anywhere from 15-45 minutes.
